Halosulfuron-methyl 75% WDG

Halosulfuron-methyl (methyl 3-chloro-5-[(4,6-dimethoxypyrimidin-2-yl)carbamoylsulfamoyl]-1-methylpyrazole-4-carboxylate) is an organic compound mainly used as a selective, systemic post-emergence herbicide, with other uses as a crop desiccant and to control broadleaf weeds and sedges in sugarcane, corn, turf, and rice. It is a plant growth inhibitor, and it attacks the acetolactate synthase (ALS) enzyme in susceptible weeds, halting cell division and protein synthesis within hours. The growth arrest is irreversible, leading to gradual chlorosis and necrosis over 7–14 days.

    Products Description

    Basic Information

    Common Name: Halosulfuron-methyl

    CAS No.: 100784-20-1

    Synonyms: methyl 3-chloro-5-[(4,6-dimethoxypyrimidin-2-yl)carbamoylsulfamoyl]-1-methylpyrazole-4-carboxylate

    Molecular Formula: C₁₃H₁₅ClN₆O₇S

    Agrochemical Type: Herbicide, Sulfonylurea

Mode of Action: Acetolactate synthase (ALS) inhibitor. This herbicide is absorbed by the leaves and roots of weeds and translocated throughout the plant, acting on acetolactate synthase (ALS) to inhibit the synthesis of branched-chain amino acids (valine, leucine, and isoleucine), thereby suppressing cell division and protein production. Sensitive weeds show cessation of growth at the growing point within hours of application, followed by gradual yellowing, necrosis, and ultimately, the death of the entire plant; this physiological inhibition is irreversible.

    Application

Halosulfuron-methyl 75% WDG is used to control broadleaf weeds and some grasses in rice fields, corn, and soybean crops. It can also be applied in non-crop areas like roadsides and industrial sites, and in pastures and rangelands to manage invasive weeds. It is a selective herbicide effective through pre-emergence or post-emergence applications.
